Be Your Own Coach is filled with exercises and practices that you can use to coach yourself. In this section we will continue to offer you more practices to work with the ideas in the book.

If you happen to be a corporate coach, these practices will provide you with alternatives to use in coaching courses you may be teaching using our book. You may also use these practices with your in-house coaching clients.

If you are an independent professional coach, you can use these practices as a supplement to the ones offered in the book.

 

WHAT DO
   YOU ADMIRE
?

 

 

 

 

 

Think of the people in your life who have influenced you and helped to shape who you are today. Choose one of them and write down three to five characteristics or qualities about them that you admire.

Then ask yourself these questions.

  1. In what ways do you possess these same qualities?
  2. Which of these qualities is least developed in you?
  3. Create a new way of bringing this quality to life in yourself.

For example, if your admired person was very giving, and that is something you would like to develop in yourself, you can brainstorm ways to do that, such as:

  • offering to help someone
  • noticing when someone needs your time and giving it freely
  • buying something you see that is perfect for someone you love, for no special reason other than to give it to that person
  • spending time volunteering to help an organization whose cause you believe in

You will find that cultivating this quality takes time, but over time, it will be a natural part of your being.
